Finally on the upswing

This last week and a half has been awful. My first experience as a mommy dealing with a sick child. The boy started with a horrendous cough almost two weeks ago; that progressed into a cold and vomiting (because of how hard he coughed). I tried everything I could think of: humidifier, tylenol, suctioning his nose, calling the nurse several times for advice... I even tried being patient! We finally hit a breaking point last Wednesday when he vomited 3 times in 10 minutes, even though he had emptied his stomach. We went to the dr that night (by that time the boy was smiling again...) and he was diagnosed with a Left Ear Infection, Right Lung Bronchiolitis, and a barely positive RSV test. Gee, was that all...? So we were prescribed an antibiotic which we began administering immediately. Things got even more fun when I tried to give him his medicine--he did NOT like it one bit and vomited the pink stuff all over. (Fortunately I have figured out ways to get it into him since then, but it's always a trick.)
I don't get it--when I was little, this was my favorite medicine! If I ever got sick, I begged my mom to get me this medicine because it tasted like bubble gum. And yet, somehow I always got the nasty purple medicine. Of course, now I realize that the pink yummy stuff was only for ear infections and I was always sick with strep.
So we are now on the upswing of this yucky sickness, and I am SO GLAD! I have always had a sleep-through-the-night baby, until this week when I did a lot of waking up to a coughing baby, or a stuffy-nosed baby struggling to breathe. One night I even endured a screaming fit from midnight to 1:30--non-stop. Not fun. But despite all that, he still had some smile moments for me.

I am so glad you are feeling better little guy! Thank you Grandma Lori & Joycee for being a sounding board for me, and thank you to my sisters-in-law for playing with a sick baby so that I would stay sane!

  2. Hi Beth,

I was trying to figure out who had commented on my blog. I am so happy that it was you. I have been wondering how you are doing. Your son is a cutie, I am happy that he is feeling better. You look so happy being a mom, and I am sure that you are a great one!!! Your husband seems like such a funny guy. He must be a great match for you.

I will be having my third baby any day now (I am due on the 17th). It is now all about the waiting game.

I hope that we will get to see you while I am in Utah this summer.
